A massive congratulations to all University students for competing another year of being a citizen in stress city !!!

Let’s face it, stress is one of the most common factors in our lives. Although it might not be externally noticed, stress is so sneaky that it happens without us even realising. Internal stress is the type most likely causing those pimples or wrinkle signs. That’s why I’m here, to tell you how it’s possible to de-stress these holidays. Because after all those exams, it becomes pretty difficult.

(3) Go for a Run 

Just don’t do what I did the other day (a.k.a, faint whilst running and getting a random stranger to drive you home). That’s what happens when you have low iron and haven’t exercised for over 4 months. Or when Childish Gambino is playing hectic tunes in your ears and you don’t realise how fast you’re actually running.

I was on the phone to a friend of mine today. We were both in full agreement about the benefits of the ocean. What a glorious yet frightening natural wonder! With the ability to make you float or make you sink.

What a soothing way to de-stress these holidays! Also, swimwear is optional if you find a private beach. Hehe.

NOW IS GREAT

Now is a great time to receive that wake up call you’ve been needing. 

Travelling: whether near or far, is always the perfect opportunity to reflect on some part of your existence in this world. I can have a similar reflective experience whilst frolicking through the green pastures in Ireland, to travelling on the Cooroy train back to Brisbane. It all comes down to your outlook. Unfortunately, our outlooks are numbed by routines we fall into.

So it’s 6:30am on Tuesday 21st June and I’m commuting from one home to the other. Somehow, the music in my ears is making me forget about the foul smell filling this carriage. I hope it’s just the broken heater. I’m tapping at the keyboard buttons with the sun glowing on my face. My eyes catch a glance of my new silk-corded bracelet I picked up at the markets on Saturday.

‘NOW IS GREAT’ three words carved into piece of silver, sitting delicately on my skin. A selection of three simple words right there. They beckon me to think two ways. And you should do the same.

Re-ignite your soul 

  • Now is a great time to do whatever it is which will make your soul feel alive. You know how you’re breathing right now and it’s all sweet cause you’ll just keep breathing forever and ever? Wrong. You’ve got a lot of breathing left- but how will you use it?

Most of my friends won’t fulfil the ambitions they crave because of other factors- Family, friends or partners. Maybe even the path they have already chosen for themselves. That’s kind of unfair don’t you think? Can’t there be something more to their lives then that? Seriously, do what you want with the time that you have.

“I’ll do it next year, or maybe the year after”

No. Do it now. Even tomorrow is too far away. Start organising the steps towards your ambitions now. Don’t put them off; you must give your heart what it wants because before you know it you’ll be sitting with your great grandchildren surrounding you begging for your life stories. They won’t be interested in all the times that you stayed. They will want to know those moments that had impact on your life. Those moments where you said to yourself ‘No, stuff everyone else I’m doing this my way’.

Be Present

  • Now is a great time to be present. And guess what? You have the choice to make that happen as well. I remember writing a blog post titled Come on, it’s summer and it is probably my favourite blog post I wrote in Greece. It truly highlights the meaning of time in the best way. Check it out here. but if you’re to lazy to have another tab almost millions chilling up the top of your screen then here is a small extract from it.

The other night we were out (Yes parents, again!) and I quickly glanced down at my watch. My friend saw me do this, told me to not worry about the time and to take my watch off. He wanted me to realize that I didn’t need to know the time, as the moment we were experiencing was the part to treasure most. He had a valid point.

So if I can stress something throughout this whole post. Then I would stress the fact that I truly believe, NOW IS GREAT.

Someone who was ‘probably great’ said, “If not now, then when?”

And yeah, they are right in my books.

You better NOT lose yourself

Why hello,

Although I admire Eminem and appreciate the lyrics to his top song ‘Lose Yourself’ I’m going to take it from a different perspective. For all those music literate people you will understand that Eminem’s song talks about grasping a hold of a moment. A moment which grants you the ability to lose yourself in it.

Nobody likes a fake person, I’ve met a few of them actually. When I mean fake, I mean that they were just talking themselves up as someone they clearly haven’t reached yet…

I’m not to sure how you guys feel about this but I would rather be real. The real, original, authentic Elly-Grace…

Because it’s true, nobody else is in your skin- it’s just you- isn’t that just wonderful?!! Just stop for a moment (even lose yourself Eminem style in this very moment right now) because how you look, how you talk, act, laugh, the moment someone says your name, the side you fall asleep best on at night, the way you start your morning or end your night, if you prefer tea or coffee, meat or no meat. Whether you’re sarcastic or not, quiet or loud, reserved or outgoing… all of these simple details make up your individual characteristics. And nobody should make you feel like you have to change these things about yourself.

And if a nobody who thinks they are somebody makes you feel like you need to change then you must stay grounded. When you feel yourself slipping from who you are you must regain balance again. Head back to a happy place whether it be literally moving yourself or just a space, the refreshment sanctuary of your mind… if there is such a thing – If so, I am to reach that blissful place. hahaha!

Here’s why you must remain yourself. Because once you begin acting quiet instead of being your normal loud volume, or rude when you are actually the kindest person on earth, then your fake clone becomes a lie of your normal self…and others begin to accept that lie.

Tick tock, Oh my gosh.

Is it because I have a goal to finish the ‘Divergent’ series. Is it the change in the weather. Or the fact that I’ve been watching ’The Voice Australia’ every night because my cousin Isaac is in the competition. Maybe it’s just because I have an overwhelming laziness to write something for ‘myself’ that doesn’t include another creative writing story, feature article or lord help me, analytical exposition. I think that would have to be it indeed. I’m just so swamped with assessments and I feel like my clock has been adjusted to speed up x2 so that I’m left with halved-half-days,-  that’s ‘less than half’ for people who don’t understand that analogy. I don’t know why I feel like everyday time is dramatically escaping from my sight! I don’t have a job, social life or any extra-curricular activities to attend to!

So why is it that I feel like every time I check the clock it’s skipped 3 hours ahead when I felt like 3 minutes had pasted?
One word: 

P.r.o.c.r.a.s.t.i.n.a.t.i.o.n.

‘Our greatest enemy’

We all do it! Come on, fess up…Admit it! Does it make you feel better to admit it if I tell you we wouldn’t be classified as Human if we didn’t. Well I guess some people just have those ‘procrastination-skills’ as they matrix their way through the simple life of a life un-procrastinfiyed. Or however else they can be classified. But let us not draw attention to those people because it’s just unfair that the other 99% of humans who do procrastinate on a daily basis.

Elly’s 3 Tips to reduce your procrastination:

1) Not everything has to be neat and tidy before you start doing some damn work! > You do not have to go around frantically cleaning your house/bedroom/desk/school bag/to-do list/ as though the Queen is coming to town to see you! I know what you want to say, “Oh but I need to make sure my workspace is clean and tidy to start my assignments/study on”– and trust me I completely know what you mean. I know that it isn’t possible to try and start an assignment if your mind is filled with clutter as you stare at the untidiness of your room. So go ahead and clean if you must! Just don’t let time get the better of you where you replace 3 minutes for 3 hours upon the discovery of old primary school photos as you take time to pause and reflect.

2) You don’t need to go on a snack break every 0.5 seconds! > It’s a hard one but it’s true. Don’t do it! You’ll not only start to form bad habits of needing a drink or snack every time you sit down to your desk, but a trip to the kitchen might mean a glance at the T.V which will entice you to seize all forms of school work! And lone-behold, before you know it you’re trapped waiting for your favourite show to appear! Which might evidently mean watching for a good few hours! You’ll forget what you were mean to be doing in the first place!

3) Don’t randomly call friends or begin a new text message channelling your inner grade six self…..

Elly: ‘Hey’
Jane: ‘Sup?’
Elly: ‘Nm, you?’
Jane: ‘Yeah me nethier. How’s school?’
Elly: ‘So bad, so much work to do. Not enough time’

Well maybe if you got off your bloody phone you’d have enough time!! Did you ever think about that? Well, perhaps you should take a minute to think about it now. Do you understand my drift, readers? Or have I lost you because the ‘no-phone-deal’ is too big of a thing for you to give up!

Anyways, so here I am, a classic example of one who procrastinates too much as I currently should be working on my Film and Tv assignment. Oops!

So I guess all those points were not only for you guys, but also for myself! Who woulda thought eh!
