Exploring my Instagram Archives

Hacking the Instagram game means having killer captions, even if you have to lie about your feelings sometimes.

We all have those nights where we reminisce on the good times as we scroll through our Instagram profile. So I thought I’d take a trip down memory lane to some Instagram posts from last year and get real with what I was actually dealing with instead of what I said on my captions. (Most of them are selfies cause I’m usually alone so don’t judge). Who knows, after this blog post I might even start a series called “Not what it seems”. Highlighting the fact that other people’s lives are not always how they appear on social media.

So let’s hop to it.

10 Tips for Being A Good Friend

Good friends are hard to find these days. But when you do search high and low for that quality person, you’ll want to hang onto that friendship. However, it goes both ways. A friendship can hardly flourish if it is just one sided.

I sat down with my beautiful friend, Katie Baird at Born to Explore the World and discussed what it means to be a good friend.

screen-shot-2016-10-06-at-9-30-10-pm

  1. TAKE THE TIME:

Taking the time to listen to each other’s Spotify playlists, knowing full well their blood and sweat went into creating their own little slice of heaven.

  1. VISIT THEM:

When they’re sick, and provide any sort of comfort food. They will remember this next time you’re sick.

  1. BE NATURAL:

Be raw with them. Make sure you give your friends the privilege of knowing the real you at all times, even if it drags a whole range of emotions with it.

  1. BE HONEST:

Call them on their shit. It’s 100% okay that if you feel they are making a crazy life decision to pull them up on it. However, when they’re being over emotional, let them cry and rant to you as well. Sometimes you might not have the wisdom to give to them but they will find it comforting just knowing that you are listening.

  1. ANSWER CALLS:

Answer their Skype calls or phone calls when their overseas and need your help ASAP and be willing to spend hours on the phone with them talking about every situation with them, and wishing you were together again. We get it, everyone has busy schedules so if you can’t answer their calls then just send them a message saying you’re thinking of them. It’s simple.

  1. SUPPORT THEM:

Celebrate with them. They’re victory is your victory. Seeing them happy makes you happy. So make sure you show it.

  1. SHARE:

What’s mine is yours. Be so comfortable around them that there is no boundaries and what you can and can’t borrow and share…just not boyfriends.

  1. LOVE THE FAM:

Treat their family like you’d treat your own. Ask about them, because almost instinctively you already care about them.

  1. DON’T BE OVERPROTECTIVE:

And don’t be overly clingy. Be happy in who you are, and your confidence that the friendship makes you both shine – not one of you hiding behind the other.

  1. ESCAPE WITH THEM:

They will escape with you when you feel the need to get away. Even if it’s just to pick you up for an ice-cream or a long road trip. They will be there.

What did DIVF do in September?

September was a bit of a blur. Not only in terms of how many times I was heading out drinking, but also my future prospects. Everything seemed a little faded in regards to my university degree and where I should be working. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t done any cool shit.

So I thought I’d do a quick recap on the month that was September. Summer approached fast and before I knew it I was falling in love with the ocean all over again (well, I supposed that love never dwindled). Thankfully I only felt the wrath of one month of Winter. I’m a pretty good escape artist when it comes to a change in season. I dropped my university subjects down to two and began job seeking.

Heading back to the Sunshine Coast for a few weeks while I found my bearings around Brisbane again was the best thing I did. The sunny coast helped me to relax and have patience for a job that was on the horizon soon. The weather was blissful and the time I spent with a good friend of mine has been extremely cherished.

After three months, I am still ‘technically’ jobless but looking forward to starting a Christmas Casual position at SportsGirl at the end of this month.

Also don’t question the name of the account, I’m broke af so I use my friends Spotify premium.

Yes, it was a very long time ago that I went to Western Australia.

The start of last year to be exact. However, I recently came across some super cool shots that were taken whilst we were over there and thought why the hell don’t I put them all together in a travel diary.

We only got to explore the other side of Australia for a short two weeks.

Places you must see in Western Australia:

Top 10 Songs You Need To Listen To Right Now: SPRING EDITION

As you might have seen, spring is well upon us! So check out this post first before you finalise that Spotify playlist for spring because I’ve got the Top 10 Songs you need to listen to RIGHT NOW.

With this new season in place we’re all searching for those addictive beats to hum away to whilst frolicking through some fields or acting melancholic in your bedroom on a Friday night cause you’ve got study to do. **Crying for you** (Wait, I’m that girl in the bedroom on a Friday night, crying, for me and for you. Don’t worry, I’ll cry double for you hehe).

ELLY-GRACE’S TOP 10 FOR SPRING:

  1. Youth – Glass Animals (Similar to Gooey by the same artist but doesn’t stop my love for this band, and the entire album for that matter).
  2. 1000x – Jarryd James ft. Broods. Just pure quality 1000x over.
  3. Two Weeks – FKA Twigs. The other day my friend was like, “Yeah I think this song is about sex” It totally is, you couldn’t even interpret it any other way.
  4. I need a forest fire – James Blake, Bon Iver. Also, Bon Iver recently dropped a few new songs with an album on the way- *fingers crossed*
  5. Lose It – Oh Wonder. It was honestly such a struggle to pick my favourite song from Oh Wonder’s album. I picked this one because it has a sick beat mixed with some jazzy-like tunes…mmm perfect.
  6. You’re the best – Wet
  7. Sex – EDEN. Whilst writing this list my friend messaged me telling me to listen to this song as it was (in her words) ‘Guaranteed to mess with your emotional state’. It definitely did. I’ve now listened to it 5 times in a row and I don’t think I’ll be getting much sleep tonight.
  8. The Girls- Lisa Mitchell
  9. The Birds Pt.1 – The Weeknd. I love this artist so much and always will. He’s just so real arghhhh.
  10. Gabriel – Bear’s Den. I discovered these guys last year randomly with their song Agape. Listen and fall in love.

Enjoy listening to the sounds of spring over the weekend.

Thanks also to Morgan R for the music guidance.
